The Blessing of The Animals at St. Luke in the Fields has become a very popular event in the West Village, and this past Sunday October 5 was no exception. Pet owners who attended were aglow with smiles, and we have to assume that their pets felt the same way.
After a service at St. Luke in the Fields on Hudson Street, owners and their much-loved pets lined up to get individual blessings from Reverend Caroline Stacey at the church’s altar. The blessings were followed by a play period for dogs in the school’s playground.
A great day for all.
In a moving ceremony on October 1, the Southwest corner of Charles and Bleecker Streets was renamed for NYPD Bomb Squad Officer Brian Murray, whose life was taken while dismantling a Croatian terrorist bomb in 1976.
Speeches from NYPD brass about Brian Murray’s heroism were followed by a procession of Officer Murray’s family, Bomb Squad detectives in full dress uniform and bagpipers from the NYPD Emerald Society.
